Direct Thermal PP 75 / A10 / Glassine

Ref. A10

A white PP film, 75 µm, for direct thermal printing with no ribbon. The water-based acrylic A10 adhesive is approved for direct food contact, bonds from -10 °C and works between -15 and +60 °C. The choice when the label goes into the cold, gets wet, or touches food directly.

When is this the right material?

DIRECT THERMAL

The process uses direct thermal printing with no ribbon and the label must withstand moisture, water or condensation

COLD CHAIN

The label is applied in the cold or inside a cold store and must maintain adhesion in service down to -15 °C

DIRECT FOOD CONTACT

The project requires direct — not just indirect — food contact approval on the label's adhesive

AUTOMATIC LINE

The labelling line is automatic and needs high initial tack with no waiting time for the adhesive to set

This coating is exclusive to direct thermal. Do not use with ribbon or thermal transfer: results will not be as expected.

How to choose correctly

Direct thermal PP versus thermal paper for food applications

The key difference from thermal paper (such as Ref. FH21) lies in the PP face material and the food contact approval. Ref. FH21 has ISEGA approval for indirect contact and a paper face material that degrades in very humid environments. A10 has approval for direct contact and the PP face material withstands water without deteriorating: the label holds up in cold stores, on wet surfaces and through intense cold cycles.

The water-based acrylic A10 adhesive is permanent, with a quick stick above 17 N/25mm (FTM 9, stainless steel). It can be applied from -10 °C — useful when bottles or containers come straight out of a cold store — and works in service between -15 and +60 °C. For manual labelling temperature, 5 °C or above is recommended.

The service temperature limit is +60 °C: this is not a high-temperature material. In addition, the thermal coating is permanently damaged above 50 °C during printing, so that temperature must not be exceeded at the printhead or during processing. If the application involves heat, there are more suitable materials in the range.

Before specifying

Printing method

Direct thermal only

Not compatible with ribbon or TTR. If your printer uses ribbon, you need a different material.

Maximum temperature

+60 °C in service · +50 °C during printing

Exceeding 50 °C at the printhead or during processing permanently damages the thermal coating.
