Self-adhesive label made of white polyimide film with high-temperature acrylic adhesive and silicone-coated paper liner. Withstands up to 300 °C, including direct contact with molten solder, and resists numerous process solvents and chemicals. Available in two film calipers, 25 and 50 µm.

The 300 °C figure is for short-duration resistance, not continuous service temperature. Always validate with a sample under your real process conditions before starting series production.

Why a self-adhesive polyimide for electronics, PCBs and processes with chemical contact

The label has to survive the soldering process

In printed circuit board assembly, the label goes through the thermal process together with the board. The Ref. RD-514C withstands direct contact with molten solder, so it can be placed on the underside of the board and remain legible afterwards. That is the difference between identifying the board before the process or having to relabel it once it comes out.

Self-adhesive label, not a tag: adhesion directly to the part

Unlike a mechanically fixed tag, this reference carries a high-temperature acrylic adhesive and is applied directly to the surface: stainless steel, aluminium, solder-masked board, polyimide film or powder coating. Adhesion is measured by surface and given below in N/cm.

Beyond its thermal margin, the Ref. RD-514C resists hot water, transformer, engine and hydraulic oils, diesel, hexane, heptane, white spirit, aviation kerosene and gasoline, antifreeze and detergent solutions. Twelve media tested, all with no effect on adhesion or on the label surface.

Short-duration resistance at 300 °C. For continuous service at high temperature, tell us the specific conditions of your process.

Maximum thermal resistance

For 15 minutes, under short-duration exposure. It withstands 250 °C for 90 minutes and 200 °C for 240 hours. Covers the usual thermal cycles of electronic assembly and finishing treatments.

The highest value in the adhesion table (peel 180°, 10-minute dwell time). On stainless steel and powder coating, 2.5 N/cm; on polyimide film, 2.0 N/cm.

Test method: label applied to a stainless steel plate and immersed in the medium. “No effect” means that adhesion to the plate is unaffected and that the label surface remains intact.

For example, the resin ribbon Armor AXR 7+. Results with ribbons of a different formulation are not guaranteed without prior testing. If you need the compatible ribbon, let us know — we supply that too.

Print parameters

2 to 4 ips · high energy

Low speed, 2 to 4 inches per second, with a high energy setting. Valid at both 203 and 300 dpi. The resulting print is suitable for barcodes and scuff-resistant.

Usage recommendations

  • Die-cutting: rotary die-cutting is recommended. Avoid high winding tension.
  • Handling: avoid contact with the label surface. Keep the process environment clean and free of dust.
  • Packaging: keep reels and finished labels in plastic bags.
  • Apply at room temperature (minimum 18 °C) and check adhesion under the real conditions of the application before series production.

Does it withstand wave or reflow soldering?

Yes. The Ref. RD-514C withstands direct contact with molten solder and resists 300 °C for 15 minutes, 250 °C for 90 minutes and 200 °C for 240 hours. That is why it is used on the underside of printed circuit boards.

Which ribbon should I use?

A high-performance resin ribbon, for example the Armor AXR 7+. We recommend printing at low speed (2 to 4 inches per second) with a high energy setting, at both 203 and 300 dpi. Results with ribbons of a different formulation are not guaranteed without prior testing.

Which caliper should I choose, 25 or 50 µm?

The 25 µm film version has a total caliper of 75 µm with liner; the 50 µm version, 100 µm. Tell us the surface to be labelled, the process and the application equipment and we will confirm the right caliper for you.

Can it be applied cold?

No. The minimum application temperature is 18 °C, that is, room temperature. Below that value the acrylic adhesive does not develop the stated adhesion.
